Near Viljoenskroon, in the Free State, South Africa.

Project Owner/s
Vertically integrated South African renewable-energy company SOLA Group.

SOLA developed and designed the project, and will implement and operate it.

Project Description
Naos-1 represents the largest solar and battery facility developed specifically for private offtakers in South Africa. The private wheeling project comprises a 300 MW solar PV facility with an installed capacity of 435 MWp.

The project is coupled with 855 MWh of battery energy storage, of which 660 MWh is contracted to Sasol and Air Liquide under a 25-year power purchase agreement. Integrating battery storage allows for energy to be delivered during evening peaks or periods of high demand.

Capital Expenditure
Not disclosed. However, Engineering News has reported that the Development Bank of Southern Africa is the largest senior debt financier, alongside Nedbank, RMB, Investec and Absa.

Planned Start/End Date
Construction started in February 2026 following financial close. Commercial operation is targeted for 2028.
